Patriot Day

Here in the United States today is Patriot Day. Both of my kids were born after September 11, 2001 but we have talked about that day and think about ways we can remember and honor those families who lost loved ones, our brave first responders, and those who protect and give for us on a daily basis.

My oldest asked for me to get him this book. He loves history and it is so important for them to realize that their lives now is someone else's history. Even if you aren't American this is a great history series for kids!

Last year we visited a flag memorial in a city near us. I'm still not sure what I'll do tonight with the boys but we'll do something. Will you be doing anything in rememberence today?

Hi Allison! Do you feel the book is appropriate for your younger son? My oldest is 7 and I've been struggling with how to discuss the events of 9/11/01 with him. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing the books. I'm sat here in the uk watching a program about the 9/11 firefighters & crying.
My boys ages 7 & 9 have been asking about it & I've explained it as best I can but that book will help no end

Amy - I do think so! I think 7 would be a great age for this book. It's definitely hard trying to figure out how to explain it to kids in a way that they'll get it.

You could always read through it first yourself too, I love books because they open up a conversation with my kids that might not have started if they hadn't read anything!
