Unplug and Build (a Revell Giveaway)

We've made the decision to work on stepping away from the electronics and purposefully interacting with our boys more often. We do try to spend a lot of time together as a family but we want to make sure that we are setting aside time specifically for them. They love to talk about what WE used to do as kids. You know, back in the olden days.

Fort Friday!

Fort Friday wraps up our Fort Week - I hope you enjoyed it!

Here at All for the Boys we celebrate Fridays with some awesome fort inspiration from around the web. Whether made of sheets, cardboard, wood, or sticks, forts are a place we can go to transport our minds to wherever we want to go. You can play, dream, relax, or create in a fort. Everything is better in a fort!

You can share your forts by emailing me, Facebook, or Instagram and tag @allfortheboys and #fortfriday (by contacting me you are giving me permition to share your photo on the blog. Let me know if you want it linked up anywhere) - some are tagging me properly and I'm not able to pull it up again later :( So if you don't see yours here, email it to me!

These 3 boys tried out our broom fort with great success. They loved it. Great job boys!

Hello perfect fort lighting! It's a light saber from @apstagram on Instagram

Fort Week Part 3: Building Tips

There are SO many ways to build a fort so today we're sharing some of our "go to" tips as well as several other ways to construct a fort!

Makedo makes cardboard fort making easy - we used a sheet to make it a bit cooler in the summer

You can create a fort with no structure by hanging it from the ceiling

A favorite of my boys is using a broom in between couch cushions to lift up a fort - we used a fitted sheet so the corners could grab on to the edges of the sofa

I think the boys like this one because they can lay on the couch - it's fun to turn it into a nighttime fort!

A fort from newspaper is different but still simple and fun

And their favorite when they were younger is the table fort.

Stick-lets are fun to have on hand to make stick fort building quick and easy!

The leaning fort is an easy one - lean cardboard, sticks, a mattress up against a wall and you have an instant fort. This one from I'm Bloggin

If you have a bunk bed - fort making is pretty simple! This one from A Lemon Squeezy Home

There's always the traditional wooden fort (ok there's nothing traditional about this one from Wood Manor)

What is your favorite "go to" fort?

Fort Week Part 2: The Fort Kit

A fort kit (in my opinion) is one of the greatest kid gifts ever. You can put as much or as little effort into it as you want and any kid will get hours of fun out of it! I like a fort kit to include

  • sheets
  • heavy duty clamps
  • binder clips or clothespins
  • rope
  • flashlight or glowsticks

Any extra is bonus! Here are some kits I've found around the web

A superhero fort kit By Hook & Thread

Build a Fort from Bloom

Star Wars fort kit from teehee4two

Fort kit by Meg + Andy

A fort for Brady by Armommy

The Mad Libs are a cute addition from This Enchanting Life

from Saltwater Kids

from Jodi Michelle

from 4 Men 1 Lady

What do you think should be included in a fort kit?

Fort Week Part 1: Cardboard!

Cardboard is awesome. It's the perfect material for your imagination. Before you recycle your latest collection of boxes hand them over to your kids or help them create something of their own!

Ikat bag has a post on several different things they've made from cardboard

Not quite a fort but a great place to play from 45wall Design

Love this 2 story clubhouse from bennelson on Instructables

A simple banana box fort from Cardboard Collective

Love Fort Rex from Kat This Kat That

An epic fort with multiple entrances from Supriseaholic

So they can play in the dryer (which my boys always wanted to do) from Estefi Machado

Do you save your cardboard for the kids to play with?
